I agree.
It's pretty easy to get just about any that flies to fly at model scale (or animation) because of the power to weight ratios. One must weigh down and penalize the model for a scaling factor so that it's an accurate representation of the larger scale.
That said, it is NOT certain to failure.
I say this in order to keep an open mind, and based on this large RC hovercraft model that uses electric fan jets and actually carries it's inventor over hard surfaces (
water not so much - not enough surface area).

There is another video of his showing a power up inside of his spare bedroom, worth watching.
If the aircar in the opening post works, it's not so much because of airslots, it would be because of the advancements in electric batteries and fans changing the game. Maybe the game is changed so much that less efficient solutions using air slots will work.
