I would also prefer a physical keyboard even on a modern smartphone. On a sidenote, now that so many gadgets and appliances can be operated from a smartphone as a remote control, it would not surprise me if they eventually could become used as a driving interface too. I still believe it's more likely to succeed than fully-autonomous cars.
