CNG can tolerate higher compression than gasoline. So if you were to try to make a diesel quieter this fuel might be it's only chance without a whole lot more machining. Then again the 1.6L VW diesels had something like a 23:1 CR; way too much for even naturally aspirated CNG. The same goes for wood gas.
I have heard of "diesel ignited" CNG and wood gas. Basically the diesel system is left idling constantly for that little squirt to start the flame and power is regulated by adjusting how much CNG or wood gas is dumped into the intake. But you can't have too high of a CR or working turbo charger for it to work.
