My 1989 Geo Metro Story
I placed an ad on the advice of a friend with 2 Geo Metros. He is a good mechanic and raved about his Geo's and easy repairs.
I found a 1989 5 speed, 4 door with 184,000 miles for $300. It had an excellent replacement motor in it, little oil in the transmission, drove sideways due to suspension/steering rack damage, had a right front wheel bearing COMPLETELY gone, 3 balls in it, had two windows that wouldn't work and tires on the cord.
The suspension and rack repairs ran $295...new tires $185...tune & oil, misc. sensors, filters etc...$265, front axle repairs $45 surprisingly...about $1200 total and a window that won't roll down, an engine light that won't go out, a driver's window that needs assistance up and down...all in all, very tolerable for $1200...consider:
I AVERAGE 48 mpg...town and 60 mph highway. Highway (60 mph) is 51.4 AVERAGE.
It paid for itself the first 5000 miles and runs so quiet I have to check to see if I am in 5th or 3rd!...laughter
How do you get a cold heater to work? The fan works and all the controls are aligned properly...it doesn't seem to get any water through the heater core...any ideas?
I am VERY pleased with my $1200 Geo Metro
I bought two 2 dr. coupes (blue) for $200 (1994) & $250 (1989), ONE (1989) WITH A BRAND NEW ENGINE...I plan on building one out of the two for a low mile backup. The good body (1994) needs an engine and a windshield...thats it! I should be able to drive off for less than $1000 total all.
Tell me a story about your Geo Metro...hints and tips will be appreciated.
