Nearby there is the Brooks garbage incinerator and power plant. Always seemed like a good idea to me so long as the really nasty stuff doesn't exceed reasonable health limits.

You can burn trash directly and capture the energy, or you can compost it in a landfill and indirectly capture the methane.
