I'm not so sure, but this seems to be among the reasons why some rural folks actually prefer drum brakes for trucks and motorcycles, yet nowadays they have no choice when it comes to new cars. Even though salt on the road may not be the main reason, some agricultural fertilizers and livestock manure are quite prone to cause rust.
