If brief reattachment is the reason for lower drag with the tailgate up, the tailgate fully down should be lowest drag since it has the most area for reattachment. But it isn't. There has to be more to the story.

The Droptail people could easily test their device. The SRT-10 has a mechanical throttle connection, so throttle-stop testing is possible if they want to do it for cheap. That would tell us something more useful than streamers and vague claims of improved efficiency.
