At what distance was that inductive coupling accomplished?
Almost everything that radiates drops off with the square of the distance, so unless your inductors are practically touching your efficiency starts getting poor rather quickly.
If you have to have the two parts basically touching, why not just have a plug at that point? It's cheaper, it's well-understood, and it's here right now.
