I agree that you are more likely to find a nice Corolla than a Civic from that era. If you are interested in the E100 Corolla (model year 1993 - 1997) I would also look at the Geo Prism which is the same car made in the same NUMMI plant as the Toyota.
Coming from a Prius I might also look at the Toyota Matrix / Pontiac Vibe for similar room with a conventional ICE engine
