Avionica are at a much higher level of hardening. There are two major troubles with EMP: flipping a critical bit in the RAM used for program storage thus crashing the program or disruption of controls sensor data. After some ungodly cost for a RNAV system, you want it to keep working in your hundred million dollar airplane.
Gm doesn't care much if your engine computer dies, it has replacements and your car isn't likely to have controlled travel into the side of a mountain with 300 souls onboard
