I used concrete blocks for 20 years and never had a failure.
If the ground is less than ideal, concrete blocks and wood all the way. The lowest rated concrete block is supposed to be able to take a 100,000lb load.
I have had jack stands start to sink, tilt, shift, settle. Concrete blocks dont.
