When at the metal recycling center, and they turn on their extremely powerful, crane-mounted electromagnet, there's no perceptible deflection compared to its rest state when unexcited. Earth's magnetic field and telluric currents appear to make no difference to it.
At extremely high altitude it would be different, but nobody lives up there.
