The "customer service reps" you called are salespeople. Their job is to sell you the most profitable plan they can - not find ways to reduce your monthly bill and reduce revenue to the company they work for.
Customer retention is part of profit maximizing. If I hadn't come up with a solution for them, I'd have seriously considered getting StarLink. At minimum, I would have teamed up with neighbors to share a single internet connection to share the bill across several households.
