I think he was charging pretty often and doing what the Tesla navigator was telling him to do. I thought it sort of automatically picked the shortest overall time. What they never tell you it's not just the extra 20 mins you spend at the "pump" but the time it takes to exit, find the thing, initialize the charger, then get back to the freeway. So 5 stops vs one stop is probably 60 mins more off the road not charging, and not advancing to your destination. Then add the charge times on top of that.
