...I don't know why anyone would take an EV over a Prius on a long trip. There's no better vehicle for that. Just the opposite, I would trade someone my Tesla for their ICE for long trips.
I always used to offer the Prius to friends when I knew they had a long trip ahead of them.

A shot in the dark would have to do with decarbonizing the American fleet. It's obviously not for everyone at this point in time.
Progress does appear to be non-linear, and in a good way.
