Styro pellets

A neighbor salvaged styro beads from discarded bean-bag chairs, combined them with a Portland cement and silica ashtray sand slurry to create a trowelable, 'styro-crete', insulative material for complex surfaces.
It's photochemically reactive, and used on exterior surfaces requires a UV barrier of some kind, other wise it looks like man-made volcanic rocks at Disneyland after a while.
As with any thermal insulation, the thicker, the higher R-Factor.
