That was the point.
It was used as an example for the inlet, The duct was actually a ring shape, with cowl flaps just like other radials. In the picture they're open, behind the removed access panels.
FW-190 used Meredith effect but didn't have the blistered cooler. IIRC. Piaggio was more similar to the Shauberger Trout Turbine, venting at the widest part of the body where the air is moving fastest.
