Made some progress on my L61 this weekend. Finally got the rest of the tools to rip it apart and so I have started. I got the head off(bores look great), removed the primary and secondary timing chains and the balance shafts, worked on installing the balance delete kit (requires hammering a tool into the balance shaft holes to shift the bearings to cover the oil holes) and the shorter secondary chain and the custom chain guide.
Afterwards I brought the cylinder head inside and disassembled it, began port work. GM did a phenomenally awful job casting these heads, there are ledges in the ports, causing reversion in the intake side and eddy currents in the exhaust side. My initial cut was just to use a carbide burr to smooth out these ledges, I’m not going for a radical enlarging or reshaping of the ports
