I had the same truck--in Mazda trim. If you are lugging in 5th, and over 45mph, I'd guess that you have some other problem. You might check brakes dragging, timing and tune up stuff in general, and tire inflation. With everything working properly, I can guarantee better highway FE in 5th rather than in 4th.
