A split-type AC would be a more obvious choice
Seriously, there were some folks in my country adapting residential split AC units on vehicles, mostly trucks and motorhomes. There was even a guy who fitted a spit AC into an Opel Omega, with the condenser right in front of the radiator and the evaporative unit on the roof right behind the rear seat area.
