Great commuter, sure, Solar charging, sure. But it's all about efficiency and that gives you range for a low price.

This is something I've been preaching too.
The current way of thinking is just add more batteries. But that's the most expensive part of an EV. And having owned an EV myself I know what range anxiety is. There still aren't enough places to charge and EV ranges that are long enough to go over normal highways that I am accustomed to drive. I don't want to spend upwards of $40,000 on a car, even if it costs about a third to fuel than other cars, just to not quite get enough range still.
I would only get an EV again if either it's a beater for driving around town, at which point even 10 miles range could be ok if the car were cheap enough. Or I want enough range to be able to take the car anywhere a gasoline or diesel car could go without major inconveniences, which last I checked I personally would need at least a 600 mile EV range unless more quickcharge stations pop up. Or it needs to be a plug-in hybrid.
Right now I'm a bit short on money to get the Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX with it's 600 mile range.
