I don't think the grooves would actually help anything and would probably end up with the same result either way I do it. But if you had to do one or the other what one would you pick?

If you have two heads available to you, just experiment with the head you already shaved, throw some singh groves in it and see what happens, then if it still has the knock problem, switch back to a stock head and work from there.No harm, no foul.
