This is one of my favorite threads.
I'm trying to repair the odometer on my 1985 Mercedes 190D because it broke at 595K miles. That was five sets of tires ago and almost 20 years. I might just make a stab at things using an electronic speedometer/odometer. The vehicle was listed at 45 mpg by the EPA but I usually got over 50 mpg, tank to tank. With careful driving I could crack 60 mpg but my wife hates it when I roll up the windows and turn off the AC, what with the desert temperatures here in the Inland Regions of Southern California. I keep telling her it's our Covid Weight Loss plan! But she's having none of it.
My goal for the vehicle was to get 70 at 70. Seventy miles per gallon at 70 miles per hour. Stay tuned for heavy body work.
Fuel economy is not really an issue with this vehicle as we run waste oils through it and report only to pay our road taxes. But oh the fun of 70 mpg!
