I wouldn't be surprised if you ultimately decide to keep a plywood undertray, instead of turning to fiberglass. Unless you find some resin which would be more suitable to the exposure to high temperatures around the exhaust pipes. It might be worth to check what resin was used for the oil sump and valve cover of the Detroit Diesel Series 60 engine.
