I went on a bit of a road trip this past weekend and split a rental car with other people. It turned out to be...a CRV. Despite the driver having little concept of efficient driving, she managed 38mpg (a lot of 45-50mph small back roads but with quite a lot of unnecessary braking), and it was a very hot day with the AC running.
Planning to drive to the Bay Area from Reno next week. I'm hoping I can break 40 round trip doing 65mph and coasting in neutral down hills. If the cruising mpg on flat ground isn't good enough for that, strapping that box to the back might do the trick.
