We're on the same page here. A family of 4 is pretty cramped in a camping scenario, and adding just 1 extra person becomes barely feasible. In-laws doesn't work at all.
Something like a Pacifica hybrid accomplishes nearly every goal of accommodating everyone and their things, grabbing materials from the home improvement store, and running on electrons around town.
