That's exactly my point: heat so far isn't capable of being focused in a tight long distance beam in a certain direction, but it will form a plume, uncontrolled. It will tend to stop about 100 miles up at the end of the atmosphere so I cant see how it is radiated into space from there. So a huge bonfire can radiate, but betcha the sideways impacts from an omnidirectional radiation is worse.
