Making it will be really difficult while you use the car every day. It is possible to cast the rear of your car now so you have a copy rear section to work from while your car is used and there is no pressure to make a quick job
Making it neat as the xl1 even without join lines will take alot of time... but not money
..you could make it removable so apart from fixings you keep the original hatch in tact
...rather than making a new one
