I went for a day and a half in Hawaii (Kawaii) on a $2 Costco polish dogs and what I thought at the time were bargain priced beef sticks. Turns out they were beef (hearts). You get hungry enough and you eat it. Hiked 26 miles (water fall detour included) on the kalalau trail in jeans, a tee shirt, a water pump, and beef hearts. Slept in the open which fortunately didn't rain, because I had no shelter or waterproof clothing. Rained the whole hike out though, which was still miserably hot.
With some trail jogging, I made it back in time to pick my friends up from the airport, despite some lowlife siphoning my mostly full fuel tank of most of its fuel.
