I don't know what you mean by the American market being "easy" but this has been tried multiple times in the past. A manufacturer imports a 400cc supersport from a market where they make sense due to regulations that make any bike over 400cc very expensive - and then they don't sell in the USA. I see nothing to expect anything different today. Few buyers will buy a 400cc motorcycle for 90% of the price of a 600.

In the USA bigger is better and even 600cc supersports are considered small beginners bikes. 600cc sales have plummeted over the last 15 years and Yamaha and Triumph have discontinued theirs.
