before Ww1 Poland was huge, like maybe the entire size of the now ex russian countries and due to internal issues that still exist today was fractious. It also included part of todays Eastern Germany. I can see some smart a**ed arrogant Polish nobleman doing stupid things. You can tell a polish person things, but they don't necessarily listen.
