You know, maybe it's just me, but if I moved to the United States and had the chance to build myself a custom house, finding some way to prevent incidents like that wouldn't be "over-engineering" at all. I really can't understand why it's still so common for Americans to build their houses in such a half-assed way. Brick and mortar are expensive, and finding the right Mexican guy to do the job is hard, but nowadays even a shack in a Brazilian favela (slum) may occasionally seem over-engineered
