I remembered the Bug Run had come and gone (I didn't want to show up in a Metro). I found a few videos on Youtube, drag race and engine blow and such like. This one was the best overview. Attendance seemed down a little but not much. You can see an empty corner at

One of my favorite cars, a lifted Beetle with a Datsun pickup bed at
1:00, now has a Type III engine so there's no hood box in the bed.
