The donut boys bought a custom 3d-printed aerodynamic fairing.

They tried?

They would have been better off if they hadn't?

At least they can say they made an attempt? Oh, wrong donut boys!

My favorite line:

This was the best picture I could get of Jekyll and the fairing:

I adjusted it, although I don't know if it was enough.

I don't know how tall Jethro is, how much he weighs, how much the mini bike weighs, how much that has changed with their modifications, but the fairing weighed 10 pounds, which nobody thinks will help.

They said it made everything 4% more aerodynamic!

At least according to a simulation.

I don't know how tall he and the mini bike are, but they call it a Walmart Motorcycle, and I know it is a Coleman. This is the Coleman mini bike that I found: Coleman CC100X Gas Powered 98cc Red Power Ride-On Mini Bike.

It doesn't tell me anything useful about the wheels, but it says the bike weighs 79 pounds, and is 35" tall and 50" long.

Supposedly, these are the wheels, which are 145/70R6, and a calculator says those are 14" in diameter.

Those are 6" rims.

I think the slicks are on smaller rims. I thought they were the same size, but they are different colors with different tires, and held at different angles.

However, when I measured it in Paint, it was 70% as tall.

4.2" rims seem unlikely.

Measuring it in Paint, it looks more like 9".

This is the first video and that is a different Coleman mini bike: Oh well.

I forget why I went back.

To see if they linked the bike?

To the best of my ability, the front tire is 358 pixels long, and if it is 14", then there are 25.57 pixels per inch.

With the slicks it should be 2.5" lower and I get 1,181 pixels from the bottom of the front tire to the top of his head.

Google says that a motorcycle helmet makes the rider 2.5" taller, so 1,181 / 25.57 = 46.18".

Applying Ye Olde Template, I get an image 3,653 pixels wide (142.85", 11' 10.85").

Aerohead always talks about designing the bottom for usability, but this is designed for racing, so I am going to try to match the angle on top.

I matched it the best I could, inverted it, cropped, and erased:

That brings it to 3,062 pixels (119.74" or basically 10').

I cannot imagine making a fairing that weighed less than 80 pounds, so it might weigh as much as the bike.

The fairing itself might weigh 150 pounds, which is the weight limit.

I swore I created a new thread! I have not done this before!

This post is already far too long, but I don't want to mess up the title, so I shall continue!

This is the second video: I don't know how much Jester weighs, but if he comes in at 180 with racing gear, on an 80-pound bike, with a 10-pound fairing, that is 270 pounds.

I don't think the rear fairing does any good. It tapers far too fast and I doubt it lines up well with the front, plus there are those leg slots.

I don't know what weight reduction you could manage, besides ditching the dinghy tail.

Getting the smallest rider?

That would also reduce the frontal area!

My favorite lines: "Ow. I just stabbed myself. This bike is sharp now. Lots of sharp edges everywhere."

"I mean I can't see anything."

He explained that in order to gear the bike for racing, they need someone to push him in an ATV:
Quote:
Hey Adam have you ever driven a four-wheeler?
First time!
So yeah, so that's cool.
"It's a little sketchy here, but you know what? Luckily can't turn too much. That's cool."

"Feels great. Got a little bit of wobble in the front end, but you just got to power through that."
  1. He may have increased the weight 4% to improve aerodynamics 4%.
  2. There is poor visibility.
  3. I don't know how they chose the guy to ride the ATV, but he did not run over Jessop, although the bike doesn't steer very much.
  4. The front end wobbles.
  5. They don't have a medic!
