I put a class 3 on my Prius, and it's rated to tow nothing. I hauled a yard of dirt with it, and regularly pulled a jet ski. I've got a class 3 on my company CX-5.

I'm running a 2" ball but they only make class I and Ii and the class ii is 3 times the cost.
