Question MPG tracking device

Noobie here getting in to hypermilling. I see many people using devices such as the ScanGauge II which runs about $200. Doing research I see the Torque App ($5) and a cheap Mini Bluetooth OBD2 reader (~$15), do you think it would give the same MPG accuracy as ScanGauge II? It would appear its getting the data from the same source so I dont see why not, and I got a spare android to connect it to. Opinions on such device?
