I still smell 'confusion'.
1) The turbulent boundary layer ( TBL ) allows complete 'laminar' flow for the entire length of the vehicle, as long as no separation occurs.
2) With a 'laminar' boundary layer ( LBL ), laminar flow could not exist beyond the windshield header.
3) This is why golf balls are dimpled.
