Cash for Clunkers should have been called Cash for Guzzlers. A car had to be rated at less than 18 mpg EPA combined to qualify. The program took a lot of old body-on-frame SUVs and full size trucks out of circulation. My parents traded in a rusted out E150 Econoline van with a bit over 300K miles on a 2010 Toyota Prius and qualified for the full $4500 rebate. That Prius was their first "foreign" built car and based on the reliability I doubt they will ever buy another US branded vehicle.
