The only hard-side Westies I've seen were fixed, not pop-up.

Not sure if that would be much of an issue, yet sleeping downstairs would make it much easier. Well, as long as you don't feel dizzy while going downstairs in a hurry for the toilet, it might not be as much of an issue as you may believe.
