I've removed my oem sound insulation from my hood, and threw on a sheet of standard craft paper backed r-13 over my engine from side to side. Makes a huge improvement in holding in heat. It would be on the prius when the engine would shut off the temp would go 1..2...3...4...5... essentially losing a degree a second (in 25-30F. Now with insulation it really doesn't lose it very fast.
It was pretty much impossible to stay in hybrid mode (above 150F) without. Now with upper and lower grill blocks, i can use a small amount of heat and get almost summer gas mileage in 45mph and down scenarios.
