Here's an update from four days ago.
In the interim I've been reading a book on alchemy (Anatomizing Divinity*) that traces it's history from China to India to the Middle East to Christian Europe.
Interestingly, the early alchemists believed the Earth was a ball with a fire in the middle that gurgitated matter and smoke that eventually became every single thing we know and love today. (except the Moon) Not flat-Earthers then, but they pursued the transmutation of elements. Their weapon of choice was the alembic.

Alembic - Wikipedia
Alembic. An alembic (from Arabic: الإنبيق, romanized : al-inbīq, originating from Ancient Greek: ἄμβιξ, romanized : ambix, 'cup, beaker') [1] [2] [3] is an alchemical still consisting of two vessels connected by a tube, used for distillation of liquids.

Curiously, the Thunderstorm Generator is transmuting elements using two vessels connected by a tube, and implosions in water.
