Do I really need to say the LSE Iraque is my favorite version of the Brazilian Passat B1? Even though it retained the 4-speed MT and the earlier MD-270 engine in order to keep the logistics easier regarding replacement parts, it had an improved quality of the interior finishings (carpetting was almost twice as thick as the regular), air conditioning was standard, and the burgundy interior trim is beautiful. In '86 and '87 there were surplus units of this version which ended up not being exported to Iraq, and initially Volkswagen dealers in Brazil were not so willing to sell them locally, but it turned out the Passat Iraque was sought after more than what dealers expected, even though 4-door cars were not so popular in Brazil until the '90s.
