We might as well call it that!
The heat exchange matrix is bonded to the 'inside' of the 'plates.'
IVECO exhibited a 'Glider', semi-trailer tractor in Europe a decade or so ago, which had no conventional cooling system. Side 'pods' incorporated the thermally bonded coils, just as flat-plate solar hot water panels employ, and airflow 'licking' the surface is sufficient enough to carry the heat flux away.
My Energy Star-rated Kitchenaid refrigerator uses this 'coil-less' technology.
