SOME aircraft are mostly fabric covered, early piper cubs as an example, my 1950 pacer as another. Cowling, couple of fairings and landing gear are the exceptions.

Up to 160 mph VNE / 257kph you have mandatory rib lacing every inch and a half if I remember the rule correctly. Inch and a half won't give you much drumming surface. 160 kph 100 mph is 3 inches spacing but still wont give drumming, shrunk properly AND kept below VNE. Drumming leads to flutter and explosive disassembly or so I understand.
