A thing that's been bugging me:
There's all this dangerous radiation right; fast moving Alpha, Beta and Gamma particles.
2 of the 3 particle types are electrically charged. (Alpha and Gamma IIRC)
Yet NOWHERE do you see an attempt to set up a protective magnetic field around space habitats..?
You'd think such a relatively light and obvious way to block most of the radiation would have been considered despite the magnetic field being something of a problem when you 'just have to' work with ferrous metal tools etc.
A ferrous metal cylinder habitat should concentrate the field density in the skin, where it would be equally to more effective, leaving the interior relatively free of magnetism..?
