About 10 years ago i calculated the cost of the A2 to about halv or better compared with every other car i've owned. Including a 1999 corolla with almost nonexistant replacement parts.
Perhaps a modern electric car can do better but i doubt it.
I guess the only major issue is Diesels going out of favor among politicians in the European Union, and then some city councils making it harder for Diesel car owners. Assuming there was no DPF back in the day, if you could use some of those kits which enabled Diesel-powered cars to run on vegetable oils, such as those made by Elsbett, most likely a compact car like yours would still make much more sense than an oversized modern EV...
