A provisional patent lasts a year IIRC, in which you're supposed to get a full patent.
BMW's chief engine engineer told me this method was 'known'.
So ye; I wasn't the 1st to think of it.
Just a lot of time wasted making animations from CAD drawings back in the P1 computer days and learning to be a 'patent lawyer' when I should have been concentrating on my studies!
It cost a pretty penny too!
There was some excitement online about it and I think that may be why it ended up in a working engine.
Now if you can put the intake valves in the piston..!
