But ye; keeping the carb to start and warm the engine exhaust would be the only way really to do this.
Unless you did the old paraffin/kerosene blow torch startup method would probably work too, but why bother with all that and wait to start.
You've heard of the old tractors that started and warmed on petrol before switching to paraffin..?

(I'm surprised ...er... someone hasn't come along to take a dump on pyrolosys and steam reformation yet. I spoze the amount of skillz and equipment needed to do this precludes 99.999% of the population from doing it, so its not a threat like just adding stuff to your oil)
