' Argonne's testing '
1) Dr. Erdemir never tested boric acid in 'motor oil'.
2) Erdemir, Fenske, and Erck primarily tested only with motor oil 'bases', containing nothing but 100% mineral oil, or 100% synthetic polyalphaolefin, never a commercially-available motor oil as we purchase, all of which contain complete additive packages.
3) One research you listed involved base oil with a rust inhibitor and one other additive that I can't recall.
4) Dr. Erdemir cautioned, ' Use only lubricants which are chemically unreactive with boric acid.' ( I found no research from Argonne in which all available commercial motor oils were ever tested for this ' unreactive' nature. Dr. Erdemir said that boric acid would require about two more years of 'batteries of tests' before its environmental and safety aspects were ascertained ).
5) The Nuclear Regulatory Commission found that boric acid was responsible for shutting down two nuclear reactors because of corrosion to low-alloy and carbon steels ( reactive chemistry ).
6) And we have Chevron's research which revealed that boric acid had the capacity to damage gears and bearings ( reactive chemistry ).
7) Presently, according to the US National Bureau of Standards, Flouramics' 'Tufoil' is 'The World's Most Efficient Lubricant', and a Canadian laboratory found that under 'extreme cold weather' Tufoil can produce up to 5% higher fuel economy.
