I think in the Uk/Europe the road systems generally tend to be smaller in scale and are probably more congested. Even Artics delivering to a super market from a regional depot will have to drive into town. I think there are reasonable savings to be made.

Remember 1% on a Trucks fuel bill is more than 1% in a car...
